THINGS YOU NEED TO DO!

Student Orientation

All new students are required to attend a student orientation session. ACCESS students will be in the same orientation group and will meet with an ACCESS advisor as a part of their orientation. If a student is determined as eligible for ACCESS and is accepted into the program, then his/her orientation fee will be waived. To register for orientation, visit www.orientation.appstate.edu and follow the instructions.

Health Insurance

If you do not currently have health insurance coverage, ACCESS will cover the health insurance charge for you (and only you) for both semesters.  Please visit www.healthservices.appstate.edu and select “Health Insurance Requirement” for more information about the required health insurance policy. This page explains how to waive coverage if you already have health insurance.  If you wish to have the UNC-system sponsored coverage, you should enroll as soon as possible. Coverage begins August 1.

Parent Orientation

Parents are invited to join their student on campus, meet faculty members and administrators, and attend sessions especially for parents and families covering topics from residence halls to academics to campus life. ACCESS will also have a special information session for parents of confirmed and potential ACCESS students. Please check the parent orientation schedule for our session. If a student is accepted into the ACCESS program, one parent’s orientation charge for parent orientation will be waived (or refunded if already paid). Visit www.parentorientation.appstate.edu to register or call (828) 262-7398. Please visit the Parent Page for more information.

Class Registration

Incoming ACCESS students should begin building a class schedule prior to their summer orientation session.  ACCESS advisors will work with students to build the best schedule possible. Because it is so important that ACCESS students strive to finish in 8 semesters, we use our experience and knowledge to place students into classes that will aid that process.  We will also provide information on ACCESS Seminar and PDOs so students can keep those times open. An advisor will go over your class schedule with you in detail during orientation. Changes can be made at that time.  Prior to orientation, you should complete the Early Registration Advising tutorial, and begin registering for classes.
